State commemoration – 10-year anniversary of the 2009 Bushfires

We commemorated the 10-year anniversary of the 2009 bushfires in a public service at the Royal Exhibition Building on Monday 4 February 2019. The service featured speakers including:

• The Governor of Victoria, Her Excellency the Honourable Linda Dessau AC
• The Honourable Daniel Andrews MP, Premier of Victoria
• community members from affected areas

The Chocolate Lilies Choir performed a song written for the anniversary, ‘Silently I Walk this Land’.

Wurundjeri Elder Uncle Dave Wandin and students from Dixon’s Creek Primary School spoke about the Yarra Ranges Firestick Project.

Commemoration attendees paid their respects by placing a flower around a 3D-printed map of Victoria.
