We’ve partnered with The Salvation Army to help Victorians experiencing disadvantage access an essential document: their birth certificate.
A birth certificate is an essential step to accessing other forms of support and opportunities, such as:
- housing
- employment
- other forms of photo ID like a driver licence
- government assistance like Medicare and Centrelink.
For people experiencing disadvantage, obtaining a birth certificate can be challenging due to the cost and difficulty of providing other forms of identification.
Our new partnership with The Salvation Army is helping to break down these barriers by bringing support directly to people who need it.
‘Our department is focused on providing human-centred services that meet our customers where they are,’ explains Clare Anderson, Executive Director, Customer Care Services.
‘This partnership with the Salvos is a great example of that commitment in action.'
Each month, our staff visit the Salvos’ Bourke St home, Melbourne Project 614 and provide direct assistance to Victorians experiencing disadvantage.
On-site staff are trained to support vulnerable clients, and those who may be experiencing distress.
‘I’m proud that we can play a role in making it easier for people to access a vital document,’ says Jess Mucilli, General Manager, Operations.
‘This work can help people reconnect with services and their community, ultimately making a meaningful impact in their lives.’
