We're improving the provision of language services in Victoria to:

  • help make government services more accessible to Victorians with lower English language skills
  • increase the number of interpreters and translators in Victoria
  • help government service providers use language services

Victorian Interpreting and Translating Service (VITS) Language Loop

VITS Language Loop delivers a range of expert language services in Victoria and across Australia, to both public and private sector customers.

Interpreter scholarships

The Victorian Government offers scholarships to support training for interpreters.

Using translation services

Topics include planning and preparation, credentials, target audiences, and engaging translation services.

Using interpreting services

Topics include preparing content for web translations, quality checks, use of audiovisual content and reviews and technical notes.

Providing multilingual information online

Topics include preparing content for web translations, quality checks, use of audiovisual content and reviews and technical notes.

National interpreter symbol

The symbol provides a simple way of indicating where people with limited English proficiency can ask for language assistance when using government services.

Interpreter card

Victorians with limited English can use these cards to tell people they need an interpreter and for which language.
