RMIT University: Profession Ready Interpreter and Translator Scholarships

To be eligible for a scholarship, you must:

• live in Victoria
• speak one of the targeted languages
• be an Australian citizen, or have permanent residency (consideration will be given to people seeking asylum and other temporary residents on application)
• be undertaking the RMIT University Profession Ready course in one of the targeted languages offered for 2027
• remain enrolled and meet attendance requirements (80%) for each unit at RMIT University for the duration of the program
• apply for the program online through RMIT and upload required evidence by the closing date of each intake. (Please note: applications may close early once all available scholarships have been fully allocated)
• sit your eligible NAATI test within approximately 12–18 months of course completion or apply for recognised practicing credential, whichever is the highest qualification available.

This program cannot be deferred.

The National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI) issues credentials or certification to people who wish to work as interpreters and translators in Australia. NAATI sets and maintains high national standards for Australia’s translating and interpreting sector.

Students who successfully complete their course will need to sit their relevant certification test or apply for a recognised practicing credential (whichever is the higher qualification available in their language) with NAATI.

• Certified Provisional Interpreter test
• Certified Translator test or
• if the test is not available in their language, students should apply for the Recognised Practicing Interpreter credential.

The scholarship will cover the NAATI fee for one of the above tests or credentials.

Students who successfully complete the Introduction to Translating and Interpreting Skill Set will be eligible to sit the:

• Certified Provisional Interpreter test
• Certified Translator test; or
• if the test is not available in their language, students should apply for the Recognised Practicing Interpreter credential or translator credential with NAATI.
