The history of Lancefield Primary School

  • 1865

    Lancefield opened in 1865 on Dunsford Street. The first head teacher was Ingram.

  • 1870s

    The school became a state school in 1873. In 1873 there were 199 students enrolled and the school building was overcrowded.

    By 1875 a new brick school building was completed. It was located on the intersection of High Street and Park Street. The Minister of Public Instruction opened the new building in 1876. A new teacher's residence was added around the same time.

  • 1953

    A school bus service was established in 1953 to transport students from smaller nearby townships.

  • 1970

    The school was renamed Lancefield Primary School in 1970. The head teacher at the time was B. J. Joyce and there were 66 students enrolled.

  • 2022

    Lancefield Primary School is still in operation.
