The history of Belmont Primary School

  • 1856

    Belmont opened in 1856. The first head teacher was Ryder. There were 26 students enrolled when the school opened (10 boys and 16 girls).

  • 1863

    The school became a common school in 1863. The head teacher was John Quinton. The number of students enrolled up until 1863 was between 18 and 34.

  • 1872

    The school became a state school sometime after 1872.

  • 1970

    The school was renamed Belmont Primary School in 1970.

  • 2022

    Belmont Primary School is still in operation.
