The school opened as a national school in 1853. When it opened it was called Pentridge School.
The first head teacher was William Bryant.
Classes were held in a large tent. There was a smaller tent for the 2 teachers. The tents were replaced in a few months by a building with 4 rooms and a hall. The local residents paid most of the cost of the building.
1862
The school became a common school in 1862.
1870s
The school became a state school at some stage between 1873 and 1878. It was renamed Coburg State School.
1890
The number of students attending the school was 143. The school was overcrowded.
1909
The number of students enrolled at the school was now 730. A new site for the school was bought.
1910
A new brick school for infants (the youngest students) opened.
1920
The average number of students attending in 1920 was 1,006. The classrooms were in lots of different locations.

1924
The senior school was renovated and opened by the Hon. Alexander Peacock. He had been the Premier of Victoria 3 times.
1970
The school was renamed Coburg Primary School in 1970. The number of students enrolled at the school was 603.
2022
Coburg Primary School is still in operation.
