Six priority apprenticeships will be added to Victoria’s Free TAFE program for 2027.

From next year, the Victorian Government will cover the cost of the first year of tuition fees for apprentices who start one of these apprenticeships at TAFE.

The apprenticeships are in areas where apprentices are in high demand, including housing construction, clean energy, hairdressing and baking.

The 6 apprenticeship courses being added to Free TAFE for 2027 are:

  • Certificate III in Bricklaying and Blocklaying
  • Certificate III in Carpentry
  • Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician
  • Certificate III in Plumbing
  • Certificate III in Baking
  • Certificate III in Hairdressing

Businesses, especially small businesses, in sectors with critical skills shortages will benefit.

Adding the 6 apprenticeship courses to Free TAFE for 2027 will make it more affordable for businesses to take on new apprentices.

In 2027, we’re continuing to invest in vocational education and training. We’re helping more Victorians start Free TAFE and subsidised Skills First training courses at TAFE, Learn Locals and other community training providers, and private training providers.

Students across Victoria can access more than 420 courses and 60 short courses at more than 130 Skills First training providers.

Free TAFE provides access to more than 80 Free TAFE qualifications and short courses without the cost of tuition fees.
