Congratulations on choosing to study at TAFE!
Applying for a course is simple, but there are a few things you’ll need to do first.
Choose your course
Visit the Victorian Skills Gateway to explore courses, or go straight to the TAFE of your choice. You can choose from a wide range of courses, such as business, hospitality, healthcare, creative arts and construction.
Choose your TAFE campus
There are over 80 TAFE campuses across Victoria. When choosing your TAFE campus, think about:
- how close it is to home
- whether it offers your course
- campus facilities
- connections to future employers
- transport options.

Choose your study mode
TAFEs offer flexible study options with many ways to learn, including:
- full-time or part-time on campus
- online
- blended learning (on campus and online)
- practical training through placements in real workplaces
- apprenticeships and traineeships with paid work.
Pick the option that suits your lifestyle and how you learn best.
Check entry requirements
For some courses, you might have to meet certain conditions. These may include:
- showing prior education, such as Year 10, 11 or 12, or a certificate or diploma
- proving your English language skills
- providing a folio of your work
- attending an interview or audition.
You’ll likely need to show proof that you meet the course requirements. Visit the Entry requirements page for more information.
Check if you qualify for funding
You might be able to get financial help through:
- Free TAFE
- Skills First funding
- VET student loans
- scholarships and grants
- additional support programs for some learners.
Apply for TAFE
Application processes vary for different TAFEs and courses. You may be able to apply:
- directly to your chosen TAFE, online or in person
- through VTAC (Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre).
Check your TAFE’s application process.
Applying for a course doesn’t guarantee you a place in your chosen course. After you submit your application, you’ll need to wait for the TAFE to offer you a place.
Accept and enrol
If you’re accepted into your chosen course, your TAFE will send you an offer letter. Read it carefully and follow the steps to accept.
To enrol, you might need to:
- sign forms
- pay fees
- provide more documents.
Check with your TAFE on their enrolment process.
