Emergency relief payments
- An emergency relief payment can help you to pay for things you need most, including:
- food
- clothing
- medication
- accommodation.
- Emergency relief payments are based on a fixed amount for each member of your household.
- The payment is not calculated based on how much money you earn.
- Payments are $720 per adult and $360 per child, up to a maximum of $2,520 per eligible family.
Who can apply for a payment
You can apply for this payment if:
- your home has been impacted by a major emergency, or
- you had to leave your home, or can’t get back to your home because of a major emergency, and
- you have immediate unmet relief needs because of the major emergency.
Proof of address
To do this, we need proof of address for each adult included on your application. You can use the same document or different documents, as long as each adult’s name and address are shown.
We can accept any of the following:
- Australian driver licence, learner permit or marine licence
- Council rates notice
- Residential tenancy agreement
- Utility bill
- Home or contents insurance policy
- Health Care Card, Pensioner Concession Card, or Commonwealth Seniors Health Care Card.
If you don’t have one of these, there are other options.
Proving your dependants
If children are included in your application, we need a document that shows their connection to an adult on the application.
You can upload one of the following:
- Medicare card
- Health Care Card, Pensioner Concession Card, or Commonwealth Seniors Health Care Card
- Birth certificate
- Official record of adoption or guardianship.
If you don’t have any of these documents, you can upload a different document that proves the relationship with the dependants.
