The history of Grovedale Primary School

  • 1854

    Grovedale opened in 1854. It was called Germantown School when it opened. The head teacher was J. Stranger. There were 55 students at the school when it opened. The schoolhouse had mud walls and a grass roof and was built by local residents.

  • 1862

    The school became a common school in 1862.

  • 1868

    A new schoolhouse was built on a new site. It was made of brick.

  • 1872

    The school became a state school at some stage between 1873 and 1878.

  • 1965

    The school moved to a new 4-room building.

  • 1970

    The school was renamed Grovedale Primary School in 1970.

  • 2022

    Grovedale Primary School is still in operation.
