New TAFE course helps students join the future of housing

Are you interested in studying new, sustainable and economical construction methods?

A new TAFE course has been launched that might be just what you are looking for.

It’s called the Certificate III in Prefabrication Installation, and it will give you the skills you need to work with prefabricated and modular building components.

Offered at Melbourne Polytechnic, the course delivers practical, hands-on training, as well as flexible learning options. It is designed to prepare students for jobs installing or assembling building modules on site.

The course was developed through the Future of Housing Construction Centre of Excellence. Led by Melbourne Polytechnic, this new national centre focuses on training and innovation in the building industry.

The training programs it develops aim to support change across Australia’s housing construction sector. This includes the adoption of Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), which is also known as prefabricated, modular or off-site construction.

Victoria is home to more than 200 companies working in MMC. Their specialisations range from design and manufacturing to on-site assembly and installation.

MMC has strong potential to grow the state’s economy. It can help to deliver high-quality homes and buildings faster and at lower cost.

The $50 million Future of Housing Construction Centre of Excellence is a joint initiative of the Australian and Victorian Governments.
