Search tips for the school directory

Use these tips to find a school or explore the directory.

The directory works best when you search by school name.

Find a specific school

  • Search by school name for the most accurate result.
  • If you do not know the name, try a suburb or use the map.

Use search suggestions

  • Suggestions appear as you type in the search box.
  • These can help if you are unsure of the spelling.
  • Select a suggestion to go straight to that school.

Check the spelling

  • The search only returns results for correctly spelt names.
  • If a name is misspelt, you may get no results.
  • If you are unsure, enter the first part of the name and wait for suggestions to appear. For example:

If looking for Strangways State School, if you misspell the school as 'Strangeways', it will return no results.

Instead, you should type 'Strang' and wait for the suggestions that will appear. These will include the Strangways school and any others that begin with those letters.

Search by suburb

  • Results match specific suburb names
  • For example, Searching “Box Hill 3128” shows 3 results for Box Hill 3128 only. It does not include:
    • Box Hill North (3129) - 2 other results
    • Box Hill South (3128 (even though it's the same postcode)) - 3 other results.

Explore multiple schools

  • Filters are designed to show groups of schools.
  • They work best when exploring schools by location or over time.
  • You can also use the map to browse schools by location.
  • Check the spelling.
  • Try a shorter search.
  • Try a different version of the name.
  • Search a nearby suburb.

Try a different school name

  • Some schools have changed names over time.
  • Try searching an earlier name if you know it (previous school names are searchable).
