The South Sudanese Australian Youth Justice Expert Working Group (Expert Working Group) was established to address the overrepresentation of South Sudanese Australians in the Youth Justice system.
The Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) is supporting the work of the Expert Working Group through funding to invest in projects that support South Sudanese Australian children and young people.
There is a preference for projects that:
- address early intervention challenges and diversion of South Sudanese Australian children and young people from the youth justice system
- engage with and support parents, guardians and families
- strengthen children and young people’s (re)engagement with education, their families and community to enable positive integration.
