Funding to the Victorian racing industry is delivered through two funds:
- The Victorian Racing Industry Fund (VRIF) supports the sustainability and growth of the Victorian racing industry.
- The Major Racing Events Fund (MREF) supports racing clubs to develop or secure significant new or expanded racing events for Victoria.
Victorian Racing Industry Fund (VRIF)
The Victorian Racing Industry Fund (VRIF) is a Victorian Government initiative that provides funding to the Victorian racing industry to support the sustainability and growth of thoroughbred, harness, and greyhound racing.
The VRIF provides support under five funding programs:
Regional Racing Events Program
Support for regional racing clubs to deliver racing events for the benefit of the industry and community.
Regional Customer Facilities Program
Support for regional racing clubs to improve the standard of public facilities at racing event venues.
Racing and Training Facilities Program
Support to improve the quality and safety of racing and training infrastructure across Victoria.
Centralised Racing Marketing Program
Support to improve and centralise marketing campaigns across the racing industry.
Strategic Racing Initiatives Program
Support for breeding programs, racing animal and participant welfare, and projects that underpin the sustainability of the racing industry.
Major Racing Events Fund (MREF)
The Major Racing Events Fund (MREF) is a Victorian Government initiative that provides funding to the Victorian racing industry to support the development and growth of large-scale racing events.
Major Racing Events Program
Supports events that are large-scale and significant to the industry, state, national or international in focus, and are recognised by a relevant racing body.
