Free disposal of bushfire waste ended on 30 June 2026.
Victorians who are recovering from the 7 January 2026 bushfires can still safely dispose of their disaster waste free of government charges.
The Victorian Government will continue to waive the waste levy until 28 October 2026 for disaster waste that originated in the following local government areas:
- Alpine Shire Council transfer station
- Ararat Rural City Council transfer station
- Colac Otway Shire Council transfer station
- Corangamite Shire Council transfer station
- East Gippsland Shire Council transfer station
- Golden Plains Shire Council transfer station
- Greater Bendigo City Council recycling centres
- Horsham Rural City Council waste and recycling centres
- Mansfield Shire Council resource recovery centre
- Mildura Rural City Council transfer station
- Mitchell Shire Council resource recovery centre
- Moira Shire Council resource recovery centre
- Mount Alexander Shire Council transfer station
- Murrindindi Shire Council resource recovery centres
- Pyrenees Shire Council transfer station
- Strathbogie Shire Council transfer station
- Towong Shire Council transfer station
- Wellington Shire Council transfer stations and resource recovery centres.

Please refer to your local government websites for information on council transfer stations' operating hours, addresses and contact details.
You should call the facility before you go, to check it is operating and accepts the type of waste you wish to dispose.
