The history of Glenthompson Primary School
1869
Glenthompson opened as a common school in 1869.
The first head teacher was William Bell. His wife Jane Bell later became work mistress.
There were 20 students enrolled when the school opened. Two of these students were adults.
The schoolhouse had one classroom. There was a house for the teacher that had a bedroom, parlour and small kitchen.
1870s
The school became a state school at some stage between 1873 and 1878.
The head teacher at the time was A. McDonald.
1900
The schoolhouse and teachers house was destroyed by fire in 1900.
Classes were held in a rented building while the new schoolhouse was built. The head teacher and his family also lived in this building during this time.
1950s
Soldiers who fought in the second world war moved into the area with their families.
New classrooms and offices were built because the number of students was growing.
1970
The school was renamed Glenthompson Primary School in 1970.
1997
Glenthompson Primary School closed in 1997 when it combined with Dunkeld Consolidated School No. 6215.
The Glenthompson Primary school site is used as a campus of Dunkeld Consolidated School.
