Professional learning programs: Vocational and applied learning

A great senior secondary education requires a highly skilled and world-class workforce, including teachers, trainers, and staff in schools to support vocational and applied learning.

The Department of Education is supporting teachers, trainers, and school staff to develop their expertise in vocational and applied learning.

Professional Learning Program for Teachers of Applied Learning

Cambridge Education will deliver its Professional Learning Program for Teachers of Applied Learning in 2024.

The program will equip teachers and trainers with skills they need to assist in delivering a VCE Vocational Major or VPC program that is tailored to their students’ needs. It may also be of interest to VET teachers, VET trainers and Education Support staff who are involved in delivering the VCE Vocational Major and VPC.

The department will fully fund places in the program for participants from government schools, and provide funding for three days of Casual Relief Teaching.

Program Structure

The program consists of 3 learning packages, each delivered as a full-day online workshop and a one-hour webinar two weeks later. Participants will also complete a series of self-paced online modules.

Program outcomes

By the end of this program, participants will further develop their skills to assist in:

• delivering a high quality education experience that offers students pathways to a successful and rewarding life
• building and maintaining their professional skills and links to industry to ensure that students learn skills relevant for today’s workforce.

The program is designed to enable participants to share their learning experiences and practice with colleagues in their schools.

There will be two intakes over that are delivered over Terms 1 and 2, 2024.

• download and complete the program registration form
• send the form by email to vocational.workforce@education.vic.gov.au before 5pm Friday 8 December 2023.

In November 2023, the department invited targeted groups of schools to participate in additional intakes, with different workshop and webinar days.

The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) delivers professional learning to support delivery of the VCE Vocational Major and VPC.
