- A Chinese community organisation in Glen Waverley hires a meeting room in a Monash Council community hall for three hours every week for four months at $62.50 per hour.
- The organisation runs a series of health and wellness seminars along with health and social activities such as Tai-Chi and Mahjong.
- The hiring of the venue provides an environment for women to access health education and social connection opportunities – sometimes using their Chinese language capabilities.
Example 2: Six rehearsal hires in two venues

Grant Amount Requested: $5,000
Food and beverage Costs at rehearsal venues: $1,000 – Ineligible for grant, applicant pays these costs.
Hire and activity summary
- A large Indian community organisation with temple communities in both Wyndham and Frankston is preparing for an annual cultural day to be held at Federation Square.
- There will be dances, singing and music from different age groups on the main stage and the two communities need to rehearse and practice to be ready for the cultural day.
- The organisation books three afternoons of venue hire for rehearsals for both temple communities –
- Wyndham City Council’s Eagle Stadium in Werribee (3x afternoon hires = $4,000)
- Frankston City Council’s Sports Centre in Carrum Downs (3x afternoon hires = $3,500)
- The cost of hiring Federation Square for the annual cultural day is not eligible for support from the Multicultural Venues Program – but the organisation has applied for support to help cover the annual cultural day’s costs from the Multicultural Festivals and Events Program.
- These two venues are not-for-profit and so grant funds can contribute to both these hire costs.
- “Lux Audio” is a third-party contractor which is also hired for $900 to bring audio / PA systems into the venues for the rehearsals. This is an additional cost to the venue hire cost and so the applicant organisation must pay this cost in full – grant funds cannot be used.
