Victorian Anti Bullying and Mental Health Initiative

The Victorian Anti Bullying and Mental Health Initiative is a new $9.5 million investment to put a stop to bullying in our schools.

The numbers tell us the need is real. In 2016, suicide was the leading cause of death for Australian children aged 5-17 years. This is a silent tragedy - and it deserves our attention.

This new program includes a $4.8 million investment in new mental health support and a dedicated suicide prevention program. It's the equivalent of 40,000 hours of hands-on mental health support.

We are also bringing together resources that are available across the government to help schools address bullying in its all forms, from physical threats to cyberbullying to verbal intimidation.

This approach will give our schools the tools and resources they need to build a culture of respect and understanding and empower students to stand up and speak out when they see bullying.
