Liquor licence renewal fees

Each licence or permit has a set base fee.

You may be charged extra if you trade late at night or outside standard hours.

Risk fees

If your licence has a maximum patron capacity, your risk fee is based on that number.

This applies even if your venue does not regularly reach capacity.

The risk fee applies only to these licence types:

• General licence (including late night)
• On-premises licence (including late night)
• Restaurant and cafe licence
• Full club licence
• Restricted club licence.

When the fee applies

• General, on-premises or late night licences are always charged the fee.
• Restaurant and cafe licences are charged the fee only if you trade after 1 am or have at least one demerit point in the past 3 years.
• Full club or restricted club licences are charged the fee only if you have at least one demerit point in the past 3 years.

Discount for some venue types

If your maximum patron capacity is 801 customers or more, you may qualify to pay lower fees if you are a prescribed venue type.

You must notify us before 31 December for it to change your renewal fee.

Risk fees

You may get charged a floor space risk fee if you have a:

• Packaged liquor or late night (packaged liquor) licence
• Remote seller's licence
• Producer’s licence.

It depends on the size of your licensed area (the area in your red line plan measured in square metres).

If your floor space is lower than the amounts in the table, you are not charged the fee.

If you have a remote seller's licence, with multiple licensed locations, we add up the floor space for each and base your risk fee on the total amount.

Risk fees

If you have received a demerit point in the past 3 years, you will be charged a non-compliance risk fee.

For 2026 renewals, we count demerit points from 1 October 2022 to 30 September 2025.

Risk fees

Demerit points in the past 12 months (1 October 2024 to 30 September 2025):

• 1 or 2 points: $12,609.50
• 3 or more points: $25,219.20.

Demerit points in past 13 to 36 months (1 October 2022 to 30 September 2025):

• 1 or more point: $6,304.80.

If you have demerit points in both periods, both fees apply.

For example, if you have one point from 6 months ago and one from 18 months ago your risk fee is $12,609.50 + $6,304.80.

Each licence or permit starts with a 3 star rating.

If you do not get any demerit points, over time your star rating will go up.

Venues with a:

• 4-star rating get a 5% discount
• 5-star rating get a 10% discount

If your licence has sexually explicit entertainment conditions, your renewal fees are:

• set under the Liquor Control Reform Act 1998
• not based on licence type, trading hours or venue capacity.

Star rating discounts do not apply.

You must notify us within 21 days if your venue starts providing sexually explicit entertainment. Use this form:
