Preparing for Narrarrang Primary School to open

As we prepare for the opening of the Narrarrang Primary School(opens in a new window) in Port Melbourne in 2026, there will be some changes to the roads around the school to make it safer for families to access the school.

We’re making safety improvements at the intersection of Williamstown Road and Smith Street. The works will include:

  • a pedestrian and bike rider crossing with traffic lights on Williamstown Road west of Smith Street
  • a raised pedestrian crossing across Smith Street at the intersection of Williamstown Road
  • a 40km/h school zone on Williamstown Road between Prohasky Street and Salmon Street from 8.00am to 9.30am and 2.30pm to 4.00pm on school days with electronic speed limit signs
  • closure of the right turn lane and centre median on Williamstown Road to prevent right turns in and out of Smith Street
  • a continuous footpath on Williamstown Road across Leith Crescent
  • kerb outstands and warning signs at the intersection
  • removal of one parking space on Williamstown Road west of Smith Street and one parking space on Smith Street to make space for the new pedestrian crossings and traffic lights.

These upgrades are funded by the Fishermans Bend Urban Renewal Area Development Contribution Plan(opens in a new window) to help deliver on the vision for the Fishermans Bend Precinct as a thriving place that is a leading example for environmental sustainability, liveability, connectivity, diversity and innovation.
