FIFA World Cup 2026: Temporary liquor licences

Find out if you need a temporary liquor licence to trade during the FIFA World Cup 2026.

You may need to extend your licensed trading hours if you want to supply alcohol during some FIFA World Cup games this June and July.

You can do this by applying for a temporary limited liquor licence.

When you apply

  • Specify the event period as 11 June 2026 to 20 July 2026.
  • State that your application is to extend trading hours for the broadcasting of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
  • Include an event management plan for how you will serve alcohol responsibly and manage safety at your venue.
  • The application fee for existing liquor licence holders is $252.20.

Submit your application at least 6 weeks before 11 June 2026. This will ensure your licence can be issued before the World Cup starts.

After you apply

We will email you if:

  • your application has missing or incorrect details
  • we need additional information to help us assess the risk of alcohol-related harm.

Make sure you respond to any request by the date we give in the email.

If you do not, we may refuse your application – you will lose your application fee.

Victoria Police will review your application

We will send your application to Victoria Police. They may contact you about your application.

If your application is approved

  • Display a copy of your temporary limited licence and red line plan in your venue.
  • Keep a copy of your event management plan at your venue.

We recommended that crowd controllers (security guards) are present at all times. This is a requirement for late night trading in:

  • Yarra
  • Stonnington
  • Port Phillip
  • City of Melbourne.
