Resources for local councils - Australia Day Victoria

A range of resources are available to councils to assist with the planning and delivery of your Australia Day events.

Welcome to Country and Acknowledgment of Traditional Owners

Beginning your Australia Day event with a Welcome to Country or Acknowledgment of Traditional Owners provides your local community with the chance to reflect on our nation’s past, in addition to affording the appropriate respect to Traditional Owners of Country.

Victoria has a strong and proud Aboriginal history, and complex ownership and land stewardship systems stretching back many thousands of years.

Use the interactive Welcome to Country and Acknowledgements Map to find out who the formally recognised Traditional Owners are for your area.
