Resources for local councils - Australia Day Victoria

A range of resources are available to councils to assist with the planning and delivery of your Australia Day events.

COVIDSafe Australia Day events

The Public Events Framework includes information to help organisers of public events in Victoria meet their safety obligations and responsibilities during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

You need to register your Australia Day events and submit documentation based on the number of attendees and risk factors.

You can download an MC script for COVIDSafe messaging at your Australia Day event via the Australia Day Victoria Dropbox page.

Welcome to Country and Acknowledgment of Traditional Owners

Beginning your Australia Day event with a Welcome to Country or Acknowledgment of Traditional Owners provides your local community with the chance to reflect on our nation’s past, in addition to affording the appropriate respect to Traditional Owners of Country.

Victoria has a strong and proud Aboriginal history, and complex ownership and land stewardship systems stretching back many thousands of years.

Use the interactive Welcome to Country and Acknowledgements Map to find out who the formally recognised Traditional Owners are for your area.

Australia Day Ambassador Program

Victorian councils who register to participate in the Ambassador Program will be sent individual links to download content, exclusive to the Official 2022 Australia Day Ambassador Program.

Australia Day artwork

To support the new campaign, ‘The Story of Australia: Reflect. Respect. Celebrate – we’re all part of the story’, the National Australia Day Council (NADC) have made available free print ready artwork to download for all the Australia Day branding, including the Australia Day logo.

Australia Day event templates

The NADC has created a collection of customisable promotional and event templates to use for your Australia Day events.

Aussie Merchandise program

A wide range of Australian themed products and clothing are available to purchase online through Aussie Merchandise.

Australian National Anthem

Free downloads of the National Anthem are available on the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet website, including information on how to order a free copy of the National Anthem on CD.

Australian National Flag Protocol

The Australian National Flag takes precedence in Australia over all other flags and should be flown in the position of honour when in company with other flags.

Detailed information about flying and using Australian flags at your Australia Day events is available on the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet website.

Citizenship Ceremonies

The Australian Citizenship Ceremonies Code provides guidance to help plan and conduct your citizenship ceremonies. It outlines your legal requirements and provides information on your responsibilities for before, during and after the ceremony.

Citizenship products

There are a number of citizenship promotional products available to either download or order online for your personal use or as a ceremony organiser. Products include:

  • posters
  • stickers
  • bookmarks
  • balloons
  • plus more.

If you'd like to order citizenship products, complete the Australian citizenship product order form on the Department of Home Affairs page.
