Year two (August 2024 to August 2025)
Our equal state is our road map for four years of action and investment in gender equality. It includes 110 actions that focus on cultural change, health and wellbeing, economic security, safety and respect, and public sector leadership.
Our equal state is a whole-of-government strategy. It recognises that achieving change requires all areas of government to work together to promote gender equality.
Our equal state is our State Gender Equality Action Plan. We will report on our progress towards implementing the strategy and table it in Parliament every two years.
Key achievements – year two
- Improved gender equity in gazetted commemorative place names. This rose from 35% named after women in 2023 to 57% named after women in 2024 (Strategy action #1).
- Supported more than 3,700 female and gender diverse students to attend the Trade & Tech Fit career expo (Strategy action #3).
- Inducted 21 women into the Victorian Honour Roll of Women (Strategy action #12).
- Delivered 2 leadership programs to support women of colour and First Nations women into leadership roles (Strategy action #13).
- Opened 5 new women’s health clinics across Victoria. The clinics provide free care for conditions such as endometriosis, pelvic pain, incontinence, polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS) and menopause (Strategy action #24).
- Released the landmark Inquiry into Women's Pain (Strategy action #25).
- Helped 116 women with teaching qualifications return to teaching (Strategy action #43).
- Supported more women into apprenticeships through a $5 million grant program (Strategy action #55).
- Opened the first 4 of 50 government-owned Early Learning Centres (Strategy action #72).
- Taught Respectful Relationships education in over 2,000 schools (Strategy action #81).
- Reformed legislation to introduce an affirmative consent model to provide better protections for victim-survivors of sexual offences (Strategy action #86).
- Enshrined the gender equality budget statement in law (Strategy action #109).
