Advancing the nation – careers in advanced manufacturing

Victoria’s advanced manufacturing sector is rapidly developing through the use of robots, 3D printers and other modern machines to make new products like medical implants, medical devices, electric vehicle parts and energy storage systems.

Zac’s VET studies at school supports future career

Zac’s success in welding and fabrication stemmed from helping his father fix vehicles around their home. He is now completing a Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade while working as a second-year apprentice to learn more about the trade and business practices.

Zac was proud to be awarded Bendigo TAFE’s 2025 School-based Apprentice of the Year, where one of his key achievements was his generous mentorship of classmates. Zac was also a finalist in the 2025 Victorian Training Awards School-based Apprentice or Trainee of the Year Award category.

Technological change and innovation

New technologies such as robotics, artificial intelligence, additive manufacturing/3D printing and sensor technology are creating new manufacturing methods and new types of jobs.
