What are Skills and Jobs Centres?
Skills and Jobs Centres offer free career, employment and training support services.
The centres are open to all members of the community. Whether you're a recent graduate, an experienced worker looking for a change, or someone who has been out of the workforce for some time, Skills and Jobs Centres can help you achieve your training and career goals.
Skills and Jobs Centres are also here to support employers looking to meet their workforce needs.
What services do Skills and Jobs Centres provide?
Skills and Jobs Centres are staffed by qualified professionals who can provide free and practical advice and support on study and employment opportunities including:
- careers counselling
- help with job searching
- independent career advice
- study advice, including referrals to the Free TAFE for priority courses initiative
- workshops to support you into education, training or employment
- help preparing resumes and key selection criteria
- apprenticeship and traineeship pathways
- using the Victorian Skills Gateway(opens in a new window) to search for skilling opportunities
- referrals and job matching to local employment opportunities
- referral to welfare support and financial advice
- help in using your existing skills to align to a new job or to undertake new training
- localised information on current employment trends and industries with skills shortages and employment opportunities
- help with career and training plans to support a successful career transition.
Skills and Jobs Centres have strong relationships with local, statewide and national organisations and can provide helpful referrals that best suit your needs, such as the Reconnect program(opens in a new window).
Each Skills and Jobs Centre offers a range of localised workshops specially designed to meet the needs of their local community and local industries. These include topics such as:
- how to write a compelling cover letter
- exploring a career change
- building your employability
- accessing the hidden job market
- mastering key selection criteria
- building your interview confidence
- getting ready for Australian jobs
- converting your overseas qualification
- introduction to using a computer to find a job.

Skills and Jobs Centres work alongside local industry and communities. They have a deep understanding of the local job markets and industry needs. They also work closely with local councils, state and Australian Government departments to support key projects including:

- Victoria's Big Build(opens in a new window) projects such as the Footscray Hospital, the North East Link and the Warrnambool Learning and Library Hub.
Skills and Jobs Centres can help employers meet their skills needs by providing:
- advice on upskilling staff
- insights on employment trends
- assisting with finding and training new staff
- guidance on incentivised government initiatives
- advice on employing an apprentice or trainee
- templates for job ads, job descriptions and advice on interviewing
- guidance on working with unsuccessful applicants.

Skills and Jobs Centres are open to everyone.
All Victorians and Victorian employers are eligible, regardless of visa status.
