The Victoria University Skills and Jobs Centre partnered with Lendlease, Apprenticeships Victoria, training organisations and employers to help women find apprenticeships in construction. Through the ‘tradie bootcamp’ program, women explored opportunities on major infrastructure and construction projects across Victoria.
The Skills and Jobs Centre helped participants prepare for work by reviewing applications, providing career advice, improving resumes and building interview skills. It also hosted a recruitment event at Victoria University’s Sunshine campus, where participants met employers and learned about apprenticeships in trades such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, engineering and civil construction.
The program successfully helped 15 women secure apprenticeships with more than 10 employers working on Lendlease projects, including the Melton Hospital development. This showed how employers, training providers and employment services can work together to create meaningful job opportunities, while helping the construction industry find skilled workers.
“The strength of the Skills and Jobs Centre lies not only in supporting individuals to achieve their career goals, but also in fostering strong partnerships with industry to help address workforce shortages and meet emerging employment needs.”
