This page lists accredited vocational education and training (VET) courses that have been developed by the department.

The courses have been developed to support Victorian industry and community needs where there are no existing packages or endorsed units available.

Usage

The following Victorian Crown Copyright accredited courses are owned by the department and available to download for free.

Section A of the documentation includes information on permissions for use. Section B provides course information, including content and course rules.

Registered training organisations will need to apply to their VET regulator (ASQA, the VRQA or WATAC) to request addition of any of these courses to their scope of registration.

    The Course in Building Information Modelling (BIM) provides an accredited training program and vocational outcomes for graduates at para professional level.

    The Course in Building Information Modelling (BIM) will develop the required skills and knowledge to apply Building Information Modelling (BIM) compatible software to facilitate the management of projects and contribute to the future expansion of BIM in building construction.

    Course purpose

    The 22497VIC Course in Concrete Precast Rectification provides an accredited training program and vocational outcomes for a person to be employed as a concrete precast rectifier/patcher and repairer.

    The course does not align with any specific AQF level, but rather complements existing competencies gained by workers in the building and construction industry. Therefore, it is appropriately designated as a ‘Course in Concrete Precast Rectification’.

    On completion of the 22497 VIC Course in Concrete Precast Rectification, participants will have the skills and knowledge to:

    • identify hazards and associated risks when working in a concrete precast rectification role
    • assess and determine appropriate patching and repair methods and material requirements
    • plan and safely prepare for concrete precast patch and repair tasks
    • make accurate calculations, measurements and judgements for product mixing and material consistency
    • employ appropriate curing techniques for cement, grout and epoxy materials
    • use a range of application and finishing techniques to various surface types
    • modify work processes/repair methods, according to changing circumstances.

    This course will prepare graduates to be employed as an assistant in the inspection and cleaning of conduits within the trenchless technology sector.

    This course will prepare graduates to:

    • handle and move industrialised trenchless technology inspection and cleaning equipment
    • support the identification, location, excavation and protection of underground conduit services
    • follow WHS/OHS procedures to work safely onsite and in confined spaces.

    Course purpose

    The purpose of this course is to provide the participant with the knowledge and skills to determine client energy needs, to safely undertake a site assessment, and to design or install a grid-connected new energy generating system to meet client requirements.

    The course is intended for electrical tradespersons, technicians, engineers or experienced persons who wish to operate as accredited service providers for the design or installation of grid-connected new energy generating and storage systems.

    The re-accredited pre-apprenticeship course will continue to provide young people with the opportunity to gain a strong skill and knowledge base related to their selected trade sector.

    Research during the re-accreditation process indicates that a pre-apprenticeship helps students decide if they are suited to a trade career.

    It teaches students skills and knowledge, and boosts student's literacy, numeracy and general employability. The learning outcomes include:

    • communication skills for the construction industry
    • workplace safety and site induction
    • determining opportunities and pathways, and applying for work in the construction industry
    • identification of different building structures and components and sequencing of activities in the construction industry
    • application of mathematical calculations in the construction industry
    • safe erection, use and disassembly of restricted height scaffolding and working platforms
    • selection and application of levelling techniques
    • identification of quality principles in the construction industry

    The outcome of the Certificate II in Plumbing (Pre-apprenticeship) does not meet the requirements for a registered plumber.

    The Certificate II in Plumbing (Pre-apprenticeship) will prepare graduates with the skills and knowledge for entry into an apprenticeship (Certificate III in Plumbing) in one of the various sectors of the plumbing industry.

    This qualification has a range of units that introduce the learner to basic plumbing skills and knowledge including:

    • working safely as part of a team
    • measuring and calculating
    • using basic industry terminology to communicate effectively
    • reading plans and specifications
    • selecting and using plumbing tools, equipment and materials
    • producing simple technical drawings
    • using basic welding equipment
    • using plumbing pipes, fittings and fixtures to simulate plumbing installations.

    This qualification is not linked to any occupational regulatory outcome.

    This course will prepare graduates with the skills and knowledge for entry into an apprenticeship (Certificate III) within the joinery/shop-fitting/stair building industries.

    The course will prepare graduates with the basic skills and knowledge to undertake apprenticeship training within the signage and graphics industry.

    To become a fully qualified sign writer, participants then undertake an apprenticeship leading to a Certificate III in Signage qualification.

    The skills and knowledge described in the Certificate III in Prefabrication Installation reflects the role of onsite installers and/or assemblers who install prefabricated or modular building elements on a construction site in a team and time constrained environment.

    The purpose of this course is to develop these skills and knowledge for new entrants to the prefabrication construction industry or provide pathways for those who have backgrounds in manufacturing or other related industries and wish to transfer their existing skills to the construction industry.

    22614VIC Certificate II in Building and Construction (Pre-apprenticeship) is designed to provide learners with skills and knowledge to undertake an apprenticeship within building and construction industry sectors.

    The combined skills and knowledge of the pre-apprenticeship course does not provide for a job outcome as a qualified tradesperson. This course is intended to prepare individuals for further training.

    The course includes units that introduce the learner to the application of specific materials, tools and equipment, and techniques used in specific trade sectors, that underpin Certificate III qualifications in the following trade sectors:

    This course is designed to provide introductory skills and knowledge for participation in heritage conservation within the building and construction industry.     Graduates of the Diploma and Advanced Diploma of Justice will be able to meet the current and future industry requirements to effectively apply the operational functions, principles and practices of the Victorian criminal justice system across a variety of justice environments from intermediate to comprehensive capacity level.

    While Justice graduates are not qualified to conduct therapeutic counselling, they may be called upon to recognise and respond to immediate and daily psychological needs of offenders through appropriate referral, in conjunction with managing referral and longer-term treatment options.

    The 22598VIC Diploma of Theatre Arts describes the skills and knowledge and outcomes required for multi-skilled theatre workers who work as performers and production team members in a variety of smaller performance settings and environments.

    These individuals develop concepts in production through to performing for audiences and working with the technical aspects of productions, including sets, lighting, and audio.

    They also apply generic business and entrepreneurial skills to support the operations and production of small companies and community theatre, festivals, events, and ceremonies.

    Course purpose

    The Course in Initial EAL is a new course for pre-literate students arriving from conflict zones and refugee camps who have experienced different levels of trauma.

    While this is a diverse group, many arrive in Australia with severely interrupted education and little or no previous education or learning experiences.

    These pre arrival experiences influence their ability to settle in Australia and apply the skills required to learn a new language.

    These learners need to develop an identity as a learner and establish learning routines. They need to develop basic decoding and encoding skills and handwriting skills such as copying and hand-eye coordination.

    The Course in Policing Recruitment Pathway is intended to support participants from diverse backgrounds to manage an extended law enforcement recruitment process.

    The course has been developed to support the initial Victoria Police recruitment process and the transition to the Victoria Police Academy, as either a sworn police officer or a Protective Services Officer.

    The course outcomes may also be applicable to other law enforcement agencies and / or jurisdictions.

    Completion of this Course does not result in acceptance to the Victoria Police Academy, as there are additional requirements that are determined and assessed by Victoria Police.
