The Victorian Skills Authority (VSA) leads a survey program that tracks the performance and outcomes of vocational education and training (VET) in Victoria.

Raising the quality of Victorian government-funded VET delivery benefits students, employers and the wider community.

The VSA collects information from Victorian students and employers of apprentices and trainees through the Student Satisfaction Survey and the Employer Satisfaction Survey.

Survey results are reported back to individual training providers.

These surveys were previously administered by the Department of Education. The survey program transferred to the VSA in July 2021.

In early 2023, the VSA became part of the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions (DJSIR).

Performance measures

The annual surveys help the VSA develop performance measures for the Victorian training system. They provide an evidence base for policy development and are a key input into VSA products and processes.

The VSA uses the performance measures to:

  • improve the quality of, and outcomes from, the training system through funding, regulation, and innovation
  • improve the critical connection between skills, future jobs and growth of the economy
  • be responsive to changes in demand for workforce skills.

Training providers use the performance measures to:

  • better understand how they are performing
  • put in place strategies and processes to improve the quality of training and better meet the needs of students and employers.
