Wage Inspectorate Victoria

The Victorian Wage Inspectorate helps to better protect workers' rights under a range of Victorian industrial relations laws.

Wage Inspectorate Victoria enforces Victorian employment laws covering child employment, long service leave, and independent contractors in the transport and forestry sectors.

The Inspectorate gives practical advice, information and support to Victorian employees and employers in relation to these laws, and their work rights and responsibilities.

It conducts targeted information campaigns on key issues. It investigates complaints, and carries out a range of enforcement functions to ensure Victorian employment laws are being followed. If the Inspectorate finds that rules are being broken, it may initiate legal action.

The Inspectorate also works closely with other Victorian and Commonwealth agencies to ensure fair employment conditions. This includes the Victorian Labour Hire Authority, which operates a licensing system for labour hire businesses operating in Victoria.

The Inspectorate is part of Industrial Relations Victoria in the Department of Premier and Cabinet.
