Recovery support may be available if you were affected by a major emergency in Victoria.

Get immediate help

If you are in immediate danger, call 000.

If your power is out, contact your distribution business for information on restoration times.

Call SES on 132 500 if:

  • a tree has fallen and caused structural damage to your home or vehicle
  • there is damage to your roof or it is leaking significantly
  • a large tree or branch has fallen and is preventing you from entering or leaving your home
  • your property is flooded or about to flood.

If you have urgent recovery needs, like finding somewhere to stay if you can’t stay in your home, call the Emergency Recovery Hotline on 1800 560 760.

Get recovery support

After an emergency it can be difficult to know what to do next.

Depending on what you need, we can help you:

  • apply for payments and get financial help
  • find services to support your recovery
  • progress an insurance claim
  • refer you to mental health or wellbeing services
  • learn tips to help you or your family cope with stress
  • get legal support
  • get support for your business.

Support can be as simple as telephone advice on what services are available, or connecting you with programs that can help you.

If you have been significantly impacted, you may also be eligible for a recovery support worker. Over time, they will work with you to find and access the range of services you need.

Who can get support

Recovery support may be available for people impacted by the:

  • February 2024 Victorian storms
  • February 2024 Western Victorian bushfires
  • December 2023 to mid-January 2024 Victorian storms and floods
  • October 2022 Victorian floods.

If you were impacted by an emergency not listed above, contact your local council to find supports in your area.

You are eligible for recovery support if you were directly impacted by the events above. and they affected your:

  • property
  • business, or
  • mental health.

About the Recovery Support Program

Our Recovery Support Program is there for people who have been through a major emergency. We have designed the program to provide you with the support you need for your recovery journey.

A broad range of support is available, based on you or your family’s immediate needs. The program recognises that everyone’s experience and recovery journey after a major emergency is unique.

Recovery Support Providers include community health services local to you, family service organisations and Aboriginal Controlled Community Organisations.
