Growing the future – careers in agriculture and agribusiness

Victoria is Australia’s largest food and fibre exporter and the largest producer of dairy, grapes, sheep meat, fruit, nuts and vegetables. Vocational Education and Training (VET) offers a pathway to exciting opportunities in this growing and changing industry, including in sustainable agriculture or agribusiness.

Jorja pursues her agricultural career through school

Jorja grew up on her family’s sheep and crop farm in north-eastern Victoria where she discovered her passion for agriculture. Through the Agriculture Schools Program and Wodonga TAFE, she’s working towards a Certificate II in Agriculture while completing Year 12, gaining hands-on experience alongside her dad on the farm.

With dreams of working on cattle stations across Australia, Jorja is building her skills in sheep handling and agricultural enterprise management to make a real impact in farming communities both locally and overseas.

Technological change and innovation

Agribusiness is creating jobs that need digital, business and marketing skills for the business side of farming. Sustainable agriculture is also becoming more important as part of the move towards net zero emissions.
