VET helps Gabriel land a promising IT career

One of the things Gabriel loves most about computers is how they can be used to improve people’s lives. He lives with low vision and uses assistive technology to perform daily tasks. After finishing a Diploma of Information Technology and completing a traineeship with IBM in Ballarat, he landed a full-time job in their application development department. He hopes to one day develop an application that improves how people with disability, like himself, can navigate the world.

Victoria is leading the way in digital technologies

Victoria’s AI Mission Statement outlines how the state will harness its world-class technology sector to lead the nation in AI development and adoption.

The adoption of AI across the economy is creating new jobs, such as prompt and machine learning engineers, and changing the skills workers need. Almost every new worker will need foundational digital skills in their job.

VET offers a variety of government-funded qualifications where you can build essential digital skills in programming, networking, cyber security and many other areas.

Victorian data centres offer a range of job opportunities

Data centres are the backbone of the digital economy, supporting internet use and enabling critical services from banking to emergency response. Victoria’s data centre capacity is expected to surge, driven by the demand for cloud computing and AI-powered solutions.

Qualified VET tradespersons such as electricians, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) technicians and electronics trades workers are essential to maintain this critical infrastructure.
