In late 2022, Wallara and Afri-Aus Care partnered to create job opportunities for 18 African mothers, many of whom had lived in Australia for years raising their families full time.
These women joined Wallara’s logistics team, with flexible casual hours that allowed them to balance work and family responsibilities.
Afri-Aus Care's UBUNTU Wraparound Support Model was key to this success.
Despite facing significant challenges, the program supported the women to complete NDIS screening checks, with 19 out of 20 getting approved.
‘Having a job is one way of empowering our Mamas and we are hoping to place more at Wallara’ said Afri-Aus Care Founder and CEO, Selba Gondoza-Luka OAM.
The partnership has not only given these women a steady income but also boosted their confidence and independence.
Wallara CEO, Phil Hayes-Brown stated, ‘Employment instils a lot of pride and independence in our supported employees, and I am confident these women will feel the same as they embark on this journey’.
This initiative, backed by the Employment Brokers Program, highlights the impact of appropriate support in helping women enter the workforce.
