Ministerial interests
Under section 4.2 of the Ministerial Code of Conduct (Code), ministers and parliamentary secretaries must comply with their obligations as Members of Parliament (MPs) under the Members of Parliament (Standards) Act 1978 (Vic) regarding the disclosure of their private interests. Disclosures of private interests under this section will be published on the ministerial register of interests.
Under section 4.3 of the Code, ministers and parliamentary secretaries are further required to:
- promptly declare any conflict of interest that arises in relation to any matter to the Premier and the Secretary, DPC
- resolve and manage any conflicts of interest to the satisfaction of the Premier.
What details are included in the register
Ministers and parliamentary secretaries disclose their private interests as part of the bi-annual ordinary return process to Parliament, with variations made by a material change form in the interim. These interests are then reproduced on the ministerial register of interests. Any gifts declared in the ordinary return are included in the ministerial register of gifts, benefits and hospitality.
