Shaping healthier and happier communities – careers in health

Health is the largest-employing sector in Victoria and will continue to grow. The work is meaningful and diverse, ranging from caring for individuals of all ages, and assisting and treating patients, to conducting cutting-edge research. With major government investment in health infrastructure, such as the new Footscray Hospital and Monash Medical Centre expansion, Victoria’s health sector offers many job opportunities.

Helen’s health care pathway

Helen dreamed of being a nurse and after completing her Diploma of Nursing she is now an enrolled nurse whilst studying to become a registered nurse. Helen’s diploma meant she could move directly into the second year of a 3-year Bachelor’s degree.

Studying at TAFE helped Helen feel more confident that nursing was the career for her.

Victoria is home to a number of flagship medical research institutes. As health technologies and medical research continue to grow, emerging skills such as strategic design of clinical trials and management of health data are becoming more important.
