The second symposium in our Summer Symposium Series - delivered in partnership with the Victorian Aboriginal Education Association Incorporated (VAEAI) - examined how self-determination and Treaty are shaping Victoria's skills system and creating pathways to prosperity for First Peoples.
The session commenced with a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony by Wurundjeri man Willy Xiberras, setting the scene for a productive and engaging dialogue.
Discussions explored Treaty as a framework for justice, truth-telling and self-determination, and emphasised the importance of First Peoples-led approaches to education, training, skills development and economic participation.
Speakers and participants identified opportunities to strengthen cultural safety, improve the use of data and evidence, support First Peoples enterprise growth and build genuine partnerships that contribute to long-term prosperity and economic self-determination for Koorie communities.
