Approved distracted driver and seatbelt detection camera locations

There are over 350 locations across Victoria where distracted driver and seatbelt detection cameras can operate at any time on any day.

Victoria Police is responsible for choosing where and when these cameras are used.

A location may be suitable if it has:

• a history of crashes or trauma
• complaints about device use or seatbelt offences,
• road features likely to encourage these behaviours.

Distracted driver and seatbelt detection cameras are trailer-based. They are usually parked on the side of the road.

Distracted driver and seatbelt detection cameras detect:

• drivers using portable devices such as mobile phones
• people in the front seats not wearing seatbelts or wearing seatbelts incorrectly.
