There are over 2,500 locations across Victoria where mobile digital road safety cameras can operate at any time.

Victoria Police is responsible for choosing where and when these cameras are used.

The highest priority locations are those:

  • with high crash rates and history of trauma
  • with validated speeding complaints
  • where other enforcement options are not suitable.

Mobile digital road safety cameras operate from inside unmarked vehicles and on trailers. Although warning signs are not used, the vehicles are positioned to be visible to passing drivers and are not deliberately hidden.

These cameras provide a flexible enforcement option that can be deployed across Victoria’s road network. This includes areas where fixed cameras are not practical. Mobile digital road safety cameras can be used anywhere at any time. They help stop speeding, encourage safer driving and lower the chance of crashes.

A list of approved mobile digital camera locations is published here monthly.
