Our second group of cyber interns is about to graduate after gaining practical experience in incident response, threat intelligence, governance, cyber awareness and project management.
The internships support early-career professionals to build the skills they need to meet increasing demand for cyber expertise across the state.
The program is guided by Victoria’s Cyber Strategy, and is open to graduates of the Certificate IV in Cyber Security. This course is offered by 13 public registered training organisations (RTOs) in Victoria and equips students to prevent, detect and respond to cyber threats. It’s offered through the Victorian Government’s Free TAFE program.
Over 6 months, graduates work alongside DGS cyber professionals in a paid internship to develop practical, job-ready skills.
Oliver is one of 7 recent graduates from the program and is passionate about improving cyber safety for older Victorians. Damon also recently graduated and has developed technical skills in incident response and cyber awareness and education.
“It was really fulfilling to be part of a team that delivered an in-person Cyber Safety Basics event for seniors at Knox City Council library, educating seniors on good cyber hygiene and de-mystifying cyber security.” Oliver, Cyber Internship Program participant.
Launched last year, the Cyber Internship Program is a strong introduction to working in the cyber sector. Many past graduates have since moved into specialist cyber roles or went on to further study.
Interest in the sector continues to grow, with more students enrolling in cyber courses across the state. Victoria is well-positioned to build a skilled and diverse cyber workforce to help secure the state’s digital future.
