Trial alternatives for applications for family violence intervention orders

The Department of Justice and Community Safety has identified the Sheriff’s Office Victoria as the preferred alternative service provider and has embarked on a 12-month trial in consultation with key stakeholders, to consider the scope of the trial, appropriate locations, and training requirements.

A formal evaluation of the outcomes of the trial will be undertaken.

Following robust research and stakeholder consultation, Sheriff officers were selected as the alternative service provider.

The Sheriff trial has commenced and is supported by operational documents, guidelines, and delivery of relevant training for participating workforces.

The trial is being delivered by the Sheriff’s Office of Victoria, Magistrates’ Court of Victoria and Victoria Police at the Western Metropolitan and Gippsland regions in Victoria.

The trial is supported by an evaluation informed by a developmental approach to assess and report on findings and outcomes as the trial progresses.
