Kindergarten Quality Improvement Program

Jodee Krotz, Centre Manager:

Children everywhere, are different. Educators everywhere are different.

You have to plan for that and you have to goal set for that.

And quality can look like so many things in every different centre.

Laura Jackson, Kindergarten Teacher and Educational Leader:

Being able to learn new things helps teach the children new things. And I love seeing their reactions when you bring something new.

Voiceover:

The Kindergarten Quality Improvement Program, also referred to as KQIP, supports funded kindergartens with quality improvement needs.

The program targets services rated as Working Towards National Quality Standard as a priority, and also may provide support to those rated as Meeting.

Services are invited to participate in KQIP by the Victorian Department of Education. The program is government-funded and delivered for free.

Shelley Bussell, Educational Leader:

I really enjoyed participating in the Kindergarten Quality Improvement Program.

I think it was an amazing opportunity that I am really grateful for, and I know that my colleagues at our service also really enjoyed it.

Jennifer Goudge, Approved Provider:

Being able to be involved in a program like this, it gives us an opportunity to continue to, I suppose, build our experience, build our knowledge.

Shelley Bussell, Educational Leader:

And look at the areas that we actually found were strengths that we already had, as well as identifying the areas that we needed to improve.

Voiceover:

KQIP provides services with a tailored professional learning experience.

It supports service leaders, teachers and educators who work closely with a mentor on agreed goals. They can participate in a series of workshops and engage with a suite of online resources.

Participation in KQIP gives services the tools to lift their service quality and positively influence children's learning and development outcomes.

Laura Jackson, Kindergarten Teacher and Educational Leader:

I think our service has come a very long way since participating and starting the program.

Shelley Bussell, Educational Leader:

And I think the program helped us enormously because we did have access to such professional experts and deep knowledge and high level quality improvement practices and ideas from professionals that we might not otherwise have had the opportunity to hear.

Jodee Krotz, Centre Manager:

It's so good to be able to collaborate with other people who are just more experienced and you just have different perspectives.

Melissa Gaudencio, Centre Director:

I found the training most helpful.

And I found that going back and being able to access the training and also sharing that with the educators. They were able to watch that through and learn from that and grow from that. So that was really helpful.

Shelley Bussell, Educational Leader:

It's incredible that the department is really putting themselves behind quality improvement in the sector.

I think all of the educators have felt that this has helped them in their practice because we're able to support each other more.
