The Benefits of Pre-Prep for your child

In the first five years of life, a child's brain is rapidly growing, making this an important time for learning and development. With Pre-Prep starting and programs increasing from 15 hours to up to 30 hours each week, children will have more time to learn through play. High quality early learning programs lay a strong foundation for children to be confident, curious and capable learners.

Studies show that children who participate in two years of kindergarten before school, especially those attending for more hours, develop better early literacy and numeracy skills as well as improved self-regulation, concentration and social skills. Pre-Prep is designed and led by qualified teachers and provides a nurturing environment for all children, including those who may need more support. Children learn about the world around them through play.

More hours dedicated to learning through play each week means more time for building essential skills and more time for fun. Children in some regional areas started Pre-Prep in 2025 and by 2036 all children in Victoria will have access to up to 30 hours of Pre-Prep per week. Use the Pre-Prep calculator to find out when your child can start Pre-Prep.
