Learn and earn - Nirmala is making a real difference

[On-screen text: Nirmala, Aged care trainee. This advertising was produced in line with COVID Safe settings]

Nirmala: I have a degree in accounting and finance and a high diploma in international relations. So I worked in strategy consultancy for three years and in a UN-based agency for another two years.

The key reason for the change is that I didn't feel like I was really giving back to society or doing something positive. So I really wanted to do something that had an impact on someone's life.

So I moved into aged care to start a traineeship. It's really easy to start your apprenticeship or traineeship. You have to just go for it. And your employer and TAFE are really supportive.

The benefits of doing a traineeship as opposed to studying full time is that we'll be learning and earning at the same time. So while we’re learning, we actually have a job. I can see the difference I make in someone's life every day.

I love what I do. It’s never too late to change your career or do something different.
