From 2023 there will be two ways to obtain your Victorian Certificate of Education.

You can choose to enrol in VCE, or the VCE Vocational Major, a new two-year vocational and applied learning program that will replace and build on strengths of VCAL.

[A young woman in a lab coat and hijab reaches out with her hand to touch a plasma ball. A calendar shows 2 years. A young woman standing outside in nature operates an iPad. In a close up, she holds up and examines the roots of a plant.]

[On-screen text: Senior or Intermediate VCAL.]

If you’re currently studying senior or intermediate VCAL, you’ll transfer to the VCE Vocational Major with credit for completed subjects.

[In a hair salon with vivid blue walls, an apprentice hairdresser with short white hair stands behind a seated young man and uses clippers to cut his hair. A young person looks at a sample in a test tube. On-screen text: VCE Vocational Major.]

If you plan to finish school next year your Careers Practitioner can explain options for your final year.

[A young man puts a hard hat on. He unrolls and looks at a paper plan.]

The VCE Vocational Major is a great choice if you prefer to learn in a real-world environment, putting practical life skills into action, and don’t need an ATAR for your post-school goals.

[An apprentice mechanic tightens a bolt on an engine.]

[A young woman walks through an office. Symbols of a hand holding a spanner, a young woman holding a bag, a pile of books beneath a mortar board, and a satchel and document.]

This is a good pathway to an apprenticeship, traineeship, further study, or directly into a job.

Choosing VCE opens pathways to university, high-level TAFE or VET Certificate courses, apprenticeships, traineeships, and the workforce.

[Symbols of a microscope, hands holding a person, books, and a calculator.]

You can choose from over 90 subjects like Biology, Psychology, Literature, or Accounting.

If you want an ATAR when you finish school, you should select the VCE pathway.

For students not yet ready, or able to undertake the VCE, or the VCE Vocational Major, the Victorian Pathways Certificate is a new, flexible option that’s built around the needs of individuals.

If you’re currently studying the Foundation VCAL you can transfer to the VPC or the VCE Vocational Major.
