Liz Parsons - Lessons in Life

Elizabeth Parsons:

00.02 - *Speaks Chinese* I love my job. I think my job is great!

00.06 My name is Liz Parsons. I am the leading teacher of Year 9 Bandler Parks at Preston High School. I also teach Chinese, English, and the Bandler Parks program.

00.18 It’s named after Faith Bandler and Rosa Parks, and the program’s based around building students’ leadership capacity.

00.26 I always wanted to be a teacher. I eventually decided to do the Teach for Australia program, where you are working and sort of doing your university degree at the same time.

00.39 The Chinese program at Preston already existed before I joined. I had taught German in Horsham, but I really wanted the opportunity to teach Chinese as well, because I really love it, and I wanted to share that with students.

00.52 They’re just amazing and they’re always coming up with funny and wonderful ideas, and just watching them turn into real people is fascinating, and hilarious, and inspiring, and fun.

1.10 I think teaching is an amazing career. You can make a real difference on students’ lives. You can impact the future and you can have fun every single day at your job.
