Mirabai Winford:
I'm Mirabai and I'm the founder of PureBaby, an organic baby wear company. For the Kinder Kits I wanted to create something for Kinder age children that was really simple, inspired creativity and helped them to tell stories.
We created 4 blocks with illustrations on each side that children can be inspired to create a story from. The illustrations were actually drawn by Nikita, who's a local artist.
Nikita Rotumah:
My name's Nikita Rotumah. I'm a proud Gunditjmara Bunitj woman. The designs that I've created are from cultural symbols that have been passed down from generation to generation. And I have put my artistic vision onto that. The feather is extremely important to Aboriginal people because our spirit creator is Bunjil, and he is an eagle. He's very significant to Victoria. He protects this land.
It means a lot to me to be able to share my culture. You know, being part of the Kinder Kits, it is honouring my parents and my ancestors, all the hard work they did to make sure that the cultural knowledge was passed down.
Mirabai Winford:
Being able to create a story using those prompts in the blocks, it's just a beautiful way of building up that social confidence and their language skills.
Nikita Rotumah:
Aboriginal people are raised as storytellers, and I'm very proud to bring our heritage to life for the benefit of all Victorian children.
