Female voiceover: Victoria – the Education State – recognises that its economic success and the prosperity of all Victorians is built on the skills, knowledge and expertise of its people.
The inaugural Victorian Skills Plan provides a skills roadmap for Victoria.
The industries and jobs of today will not necessarily be the same tomorrow, as innovation and disruption lead to new products, services and changes to work and lifestyles.
The Victorian Skills Plan focuses on the skills and jobs that workers and industry need, and are delivered by the TAFE and training system, adult community education and higher education.
The skills plan provides comprehensive, robust data and analysis – tested with industry and other stakeholders – to inform the targeting of funding and training activity for vocational education to meet industry and community needs.
This work represents a new approach to connecting industry, learner and community insights and provides evidence for the provision of training and skills across Victoria.
The skills plan includes 9 regional snapshots and profiles, addressing the key occupations, industries and actions to bring skills needed to the regions.
It also segments demand into 13 industry clusters that, between them, are forecast to need around 373,000 more workers over the next 3 years.
As part of the skills plan, a publicly available insights dashboard provides forecasts for the more than 300 occupations that make up the Victorian economy.
The skills plan provides the evidence for the transformation of our skills system to meet immediate and future skills demand. For example, did you know that there are currently 3.5 million Victorians employed across 13 industries?
And that regional Victoria represents over 20% of the state’s total workforce?
800,000 people are enrolled in the vocational education and training, adult community education and higher education sectors across Victoria.
The skills plan also identifies 11 actions required to build a robust skills base for Victoria.
These actions will be undertaken by the Victorian Skills Authrotiy in collaboration with government, industry, employers, training providers and learners.
The Victorian Skills Plan is a key element within the government’s wider skills reform agenda.
It provides a strong foundation for broader collaboration across the skills ecosystem to further plan and deliver education and training that will enable us to bounce back and future proof Victoria’s growth and prosperity.
As the first of many, the inaugural skills plan highlights the need for an ongoing conversation and collaboration across the sector.
It will be continually refined, building on data and insights year on year, with a clear focus on driving better collaboration and innovation across the occupations serviced by adult community education, vocational education and training (VET) and higher education.
