Pre-Service Teachers Supports – Placements Plus

Voiceover:

School placements are an essential and exciting part of teacher training. The Department of Education’s Placements Plus program can help you get the most out of these experiences. Placements Plus see universities partner with government schools in specific regional and rural areas of Victoria to provide placement experiences which are tailored to the needs of the local schools and community.

Each Placements Plus program includes unique wraparound supports designed to prepare you for your placement and provide an enhanced placement experience. Examples of supports include coordinated placements with other pre-service teachers, pre-placement training on topics specific to the host school location, coordinated placement accommodation, community engagement activities, and additional placement contact from university staff.

Depending on the location of your placement, pre-placement training might cover topics such as trauma-informed practice, classroom management, or culturally responsive training, which will further prepare you for your teaching career.

Being part of a structured placement program like Placements Plus also helps to connect you with your fellow pre-service teachers; building your network of future colleagues through shared experiences and providing valuable peer reflection and support.

Placements Plus programs are currently available if you are studying at Australian Catholic University, Deakin University, Federation University Australia, La Trobe University, Monash University, RMIT, The University of Melbourne or Victoria University. Contact your university placement coordinator to express your interest and find out what tailored supports are part of their Placements Plus program.
